Project Overview
Professional Systems Engineering, LLC is providing consulting, design and construction administration services for the renovation and expansion of the historic Monroe County Courthouse. The project consists of courtroom technology, security, holding/detention control systems, and building communications infrastructure.
The existing historic courthouse was originally constructed in the 1890’s, and an addition was added in the 1930’s. These historic areas, which total approximately 100,000 square feet, are being carefully renovated for restorations and realignment to current operational needs. The renovated areas include historic courtrooms, hearing rooms, library, entry lobby, public staircase, and office spaces.
A new, adjoining, three-story, 70,000-square foot expansion is being built primarily in order to significantly expand the capacity for court proceedings and staff, including six (6) new state-of-the-art courtrooms and support spaces. Spaces are designed and optimized for Judicial Offices, Court Administration, Probation, Sheriff, Prothonotary, Clerk of Courts, Domestic Relations, custody conciliation, District Attorney, and Public Defender. This includes new circulation, lobby, waiting area, transaction counters, office spaces, and courtrooms – all designed for modern operations and to enhance safety and security. The new entry security screening in the new building entrance lobby will strengthen the security of staff and visitors while increasing throughput. Also included are dedicated secure spaces for detainee holding, movement, and transport – separate internal circulation systems for the public, staff, judges, and in-custody detainee movement will enhance safety and security.
